Abigail Anna Myers showed a strong interest in visual art from an early age. Drawing, painting and construction progressed from childhood games to serious art practice through education at GCSE, Foundation and up to degree level, achieving a BA Hons in Fine Art from the University of Portsmouth in 2004. Along side fine art, Myers practices a variety of creative disciplines, including graphic design, interior design and creative writing. Encouraged by a creative family of poets, painters, architects and dancers, art and creativity have always been an integral part of Myers' character and lifestyle. Although raising two children herself interrupted her ability to produce work, she has recently returned with vigour to her fine art practice; inspired by her voluntary work organising Art Exhibitions at a local arts centre for three years.
“Working with some very talented local artists was a huge inspiration, both in terms of revitalising my desire to paint, but also practically in terms of giving oneself the time and space to produce work. An artist will work in a spare bedroom, the kitchen table, the floor or a corner of the living room if necessary. Once your head becomes full of colours and pictures you must let them out, or your heart will begin to die.”
Myers practices her art at home, working from her front room, or outside in the garden when using spray paints. Alongside her Fine Art practice she is Marketing and Exhibitions Assistant to successful local artist David Armitage, runs the Eastbourne Artists website and is available for freelance design work - please see design page for more details.
